Project Type: National Register Nominations
Owner: City of Ponca City
Hicks & Company historians prepared National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nomination forms for two residences: the Meade and Eudora Gill House, and the John and Helen Cleary House, located in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Both residences were nominated under Criterion C: Architecture. The Gill House was built circa 1926 and is a locally significant American Four-Square-type house representative of the Prairie Style. The John Cleary House was designed in 1951 by Robert Buchner, a Tulsa-based architect that specialized in mid-twentieth century Contemporary architecture. Encouraging a simpler and less formal lifestyle, Buchner designed a house on a sloping lot that included traditional room separations and an emphasis on the indoor-outdoor connection through the inclusion of a screened-in porch opening into a private backyard. Distinctive features included the use of colorful bands of ribbon windows made up of a combination of tinted glass panels and multicolored plywood panels. The nominations were listed in March of 2023.
