Project Location: Travis County, Texas

Project Type: Historic Resources Surveys

Hicks & Company conducted two large-scale historic resources survey in far northwest and southwest Travis County for the Travis County Historical Commission (TCHC). The surveys were part of a multi-year phased survey project through the TCHC to comprehensively evaluate historic resources throughout Travis County. The survey areas covered approximately 400 square miles and included over 1,000 historic-age resources.  Historians from Hicks & Company and subconsultant Terracon conducted archival research and developed historic contexts, conducted fieldwork to identify and photograph historic-age resources, and evaluated resources for eligibility and preservation priority for use by the TCHC during preservation planning. The survey results and recommendations for further study or designation were documented in two separate historic resources survey reports. The surveys were funded through the Certified Local Government (CLG) grant program of the Texas Historical Commission (THC). All survey materials were prepared in accordance with THC survey standards and included a research design, draft and final survey reports, a THC survey database, THC survey forms, and a THC survey inventory table. THC concurrence was received in December 2016 and October 2017. The survey reports are available for review on the TCHC website.
