Project Location: Smith County, Texas

Project Type: Historic Resources Survey

Hicks & Company historians prepared a TxDOT Project Coordination Request, Historical Studies Research Design, and Historic Resources Survey Report for a 5-mile-long improvement project on FM 2964 between SH 110 and FM 346 near Tyler, Smith County, Texas. Responsibilities included background research, developing historic contexts, conducting reconnaissance-level field surveys, providing National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility recommendations, and assessing project effects to historic resources. A total of 113 historic-age resources were identified. Resource types primarily included late-twentieth-century ranch-style residences, along with a few distinctive properties like the c. 1884 Green Cemetery and a c. 1930s Tudor Revival style residence. None of the historic-age resources identified during the reconnaissance survey were recommended NRHP-eligible, and the project was recommended to have no adverse effects to historic resources. TxDOT approval was received in September of 2021.
