I-10 Historic Resources Surveys (Loop 1604 to US 90 & SH 130)

Project Name: I-10 Historic Resources Surveys (Loop 1604 to US 90 & SH 130)

Project Location: Bexar and Guadalupe Counties, Texas

Project Type: Historic Resources Survey

Owner: Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), San Antonio District

Hicks & Company historians prepared TxDOT Project Coordination Requests, Historical Studies Research Designs, and Historic Resources Survey Reports for two interstate improvement projects between San Antonio and Seguin, Texas, totaling approximately 27 miles. Historians provided background research, developed historic contexts, conducted reconnaissance-level field surveys, provided National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility recommendations, and assessed project effects to historic resources. A total of 109 historic-age resources on 48 parcels were identified. Six individual resources were recommended NRHP eligible, including an early twentieth-century farmhouse and barn, a 1930s former gas station, and a mid-twentieth-century former roadside store and two adjacent buildings. The projects were recommended to have no adverse effects to historic resources and a de minimis impact to one resource. TxDOT approval was received in February 2019.
