Hicks & Company served as the Project Geologist and independent Environmental Compliance Manager for this successful design-build project to expand and reconstruct the US 281 North/Loop 1604 Interchange in north San Antonio. This constructed a major highway interchange in an environmentally sensitive area on the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone that includes potential endangered species habitat. Hicks & Company was contracted by Williams Brothers Construction Company, Inc. for monitoring all environmental commitments and requirements during preconstruction and construction activities, including monitoring for compliance with the project’s approved Water Pollution Abatement Plan and for evaluation of previously unknown karst features and caves discovered during construction. Hicks & Company investigated over 140 karst features, coordinated 23 presence and absence surveys for threatened and endangered species, and prepared 16 TCEQ closure plans for the project.
