Hicks & Company archeologists enjoyed attending the Texas Archeological Society (TAS) Academy for 2018, offered for San Antonio’s Tricentennial celebration. The Academy introduced Spanish Colonial archeology to registrants through a series of lectures and instruction with the goal for attendees to take home lessons learned through hands-on activities and a detailed manual about this important period of history. The TAS Academy was held at the River House, on the San Antonio River, a part of Steves Homestead in the historic King William District of San Antonio. A walking tour explored the King William Historic District, led by Cherise Bell. Some of the topics of Academy material included presidio soldiers, Spanish colonial ceramics, fashion in the Spanish colonial caste system, Spanish colonial metal artifacts, and Spanish colonial lithics, including gunflints and guerrero points.
